A tornado hit the Walter Wallace farm northwest of Horace at 11 am MDT (17 UTC). A garage and barn were destroyed and the house and quonset were damaged. A neighbor got a good look at the tornado. Lyle Griffen saw the tornado cross the and it was about 300 to 400 ft across the base and continued southward for several miles. "It was a destructive twister" he said, adding that buildings damaged by the funnel were 100 yars apart. Severe other funnels were noted in the next hour but those didnt cause any damage. The Scott county undersheriff saw a funnel cloud touch down at 350 pm about a half mile east of the Scott City airport on K-96. There was also a report of a funnel cloud touching down west of Shallow Water. Farm buildings were damaged 40 miles west of Great Bend. In Rozel at 405 pm CST (2205 UTC), a tornado destroyed several farm buildings south and west of town. Other tornadoes were reported in open country near Lyons and around Lake Cheney and Lake Afton. A mobile home was damaged 20 miles west of Wichita. A pickup camper was turned upside down at Cheney. A few farm buildings were damaged in Coolidge at 10 am MDT.
